Recognise Governing Variables or Barriers
4. This is part of my service as a Technician
As
I reflected on these mind maps it occurred to me once more how difficult it
must be for schools who do not have an ‘on site’ technician. The
advantages of having someone who works alongside the teachers, using the same
software and equipment, is enormous.
I was able to:-
• Identify that there was a problem.
• Listen to comments from the staff.
• Devise and implement a suitable solution.
• Offer further assistance and listen to feedback.
What
would have happened if I hadn’t been there to do this?
• Teaching staff would need to spend extra time familiarising themselves
with the product.
• Material would at first be missed.
• The impact of having Espresso would not be so noticeable.
A
barrier that has been identified as a stumbling block for using technology
in schools is that it is time consuming for the teaching staff. Our school
has spent some of its precious budget to bring Espresso into our classrooms,
by mapping it out; I have offered staff a shortcut to learning its content.
I am also more familiar of the product so am better able to advise suitable
content for a particular subject.
